Ekolojik Şifacılar
Savaş alanlarının da bir nevi manzara olduğunu ve pek çok manzaranın da aynı zamanda birer mıntıka olduğunu unuturuz… küçük ölçekte mülk ve yerleşim yeri duygusunu içerirler, büyük ölçekte milliyetçilikleri, savaşı ve etnik kimlik tortularını… (manzara) sadece piknik yaptığımız yer değil, aynı zamanda yaşadığımız ve öldüğümüz yerdir.

GERİLLA BAHÇECİLİĞİ
1970’li yılların başında New York’un Bowery Houston bölgesinde sahipsiz özel bir arsayı bahçeye dönüştüren Liz Christy ve “Green Guerilla” (Yeşil Gerilla) grubu tarafından kullanılan Gerillla Bahçeciliği; terk edilmiş ve bakılmayan alanlarda veya özel mülk gibi işlemek için yasal haklara sahip olunmayan arazilerde bahçıvanlık yapma eylemidir. Bu bir protesto veya doğrudan eylem biçimi olarak değişimi kışkırtmaya çalışan etkilere sahiptir. Hareketin aynı zamanda toprak hakkı üzerinde de etkisi vardır; ihmal edildiği veya kötüye kullanıldığı düşünülen toprak parçasını geri kazanmak için arazi mülkiyetinin yeniden değerlendirilmesini teşvik etmeyi amaçlar. Terkedilmiş veya yasal sahibi tarafından atıl bırakılmış arazi, gerilla bahçıvanlar tarafından bitki yetiştirmek için kullanılır. Genellikle gece gerçekleştirilen bu eylem, bir tür aktivizm veya teşvik olarak görülebilecek şekilde, gündüzleri de görünür bir şekilde gerçekleştirilmektedir.
Gerilla Bahçeciliği, kıtlığa, çevre istismarına ve fırsatların boşa harcanmasına karşı verilen bir savaş olarak düşünülebilir. Kentleşmeyle birlikte sürdürülebilirliği ciddi bir şekilde azalan“yeşil” alanlar ve betonlaşmış bir doğanın içerisine sıkıştırılmış bir kent toplumu, gerilla hareketini zorunlu kılan ve meşrulaştıran bir durumdur. Bu türden çevresel kaygılar gerilla bahçıvanların öncelikli motivasyonudur. Gerilla bahçıvanı, yaşam ortamının aktif bir katılımcısıdır. Sadece etrafındaki mekânlara ne olduğuna tepki vermekle yetinmez; aynı zamanda bu alanların nasıl kullanılacağını belirlemeye de yardımcı olan aktif bir oyuncu hâline gelir.
- ELZÉARD BOUFFIER
Jean Giono, 1953 yılında “Ağaç Diken Adam”[2] (L’Homme qui plantait des arbres) isimli kitabını yazdığında amacı, ağaç dikme bilincini insanlara aşılamak, içindeki ağaç sevgisini herkese bulaştırmaktı. Kitaptaki anlatıcı bir yürüyüş gezisi sırasında ağaçsız, ıssız bir vadiye ulaşır ve suyu tükendiği için su aramaya koyulur. Uzun aramaların ardından umutsuzluğa kapıldığı bir anda bir çobanla karşılaşır ve kendisiyle suyunu paylaşan çobanın evine gider. Anlatıcı bir süre çobanın yanında kalır. Kitabın “kurgusal karakteri” çoban Elzéard Bouffier ailesini kaybettikten sonra Provence’da Vergons isimli bir bölgeye yerleşir ve arazinin ağaçsızlıktan ölmekte olduğunu farkedince bu durumu iyileştirmeye, vadinin yıkılmış manzarasını restore etmeye karar verir. Baston olarak kullandığı düz demir çubuğuyla vadide yere delikler açar ve meşe palamutlarını bu çukurlara atıp üzerini kapatır. Bouffier arazinin kime ait olduğuyla ilgilenmez, kamu arazisi de olabilir herhangi birine ait özel bir arazi de. Palamutlarını boş araziye özenle ekmeyi sürdürür.
Anlatıcı çobanın yanından ayrıldıktan birkaç yıl sonra I. Dünya Savaşı başlar ve savaşa katılan adam savaş bittikten sonra yeniden bölgeyi ziyaret eder. Her türden genç fidanların vadide kök saldığını ve çobanın dağlarda daha yükseklere barajlar yaptığı vadide yeni akarsuların aktığını görünce şaşırır. Derelerde su akmaya ve rüzgâr sayesinde etrafa yayılan kimi tohumlar yeşermeye başlar, suyun yeniden gelmesiyle birlikte söğütler, sazlıklar, çayırlar, bahçeler, çiçekler ve yaşama arzusu yeniden ortaya çıkar. Anlatıcı büyüyen vadinin huzur ve güzelliğinde gerçekten bir iyileşme olduğunu görür ve her yıl bölgeyi ve çobanı ziyaret etmeye devam eder.
Elzéard Bouffier, 1910’dan 1947 yılına kadar ağaç diker ve ölmekte olan toprağı canlandırıp bölgede yaşamın kurulmasına aracılık eder.
- HALİKARNAS BALIKÇISI
Cevat Şakir, 1925 yılında ektiği tohumlarla sürgün edildiği Bodrum’da yeni bir bitki örtüsü geliştirir ve kentin bugünkü hâlinin inşa edilmesinde etkili olur. Yurtiçi ve yurtdışından getirttiği yirmi beşten fazla cins tohum ve fidanı kentin önemli yerlerine dikerek peyzaja katkıda bulunur[3] ve doğa sevgisini etrafıyla paylaşacak bir biçime dönüştürür.
13 Nisan 1925 günü Resimli Ay’da yayımlanan, Hapishanede İdama Mahkûm Olanlar Bile Bile Asılmaya Nasıl Giderler isimli öyküsü nedeniyle Zekeriya Sertel ile hakkında “halkı askerlikten soğutma ve seferberlik aleyhinde bulunma” gerekçesiyle soruşturma açılan ve üç yıl Bodrum’da kalebentliğe mahkûm edilen[4] Balıkçı, “Mavi Sürgün” kitabında sürgün edildiği Bodrum’a doğru yol alırken gördüğü iki farklı bölgenin peyzajından ve üzerinde bıraktığı etkiden şöyle bahseder:
“Gökbel denilen bu bölgenin içine daldıkça gördüklerimizin dünyaya ait bir manzara olmadığına iyice inanıyoruz. Burada paldır küldür yıkılmış, tekinsiz ve şom bir dünya var. Bir kâbus, bir delilik var. Taşlar tımarhane kaçkını devler. Yeryüzü yırtılmış, parçalanmış. Dağların, yarların o suratsız ve nobran heybeti, insan hayalini uzaklara, jeolojik devirler ve dev ejderlere, koca kıtalara gürr diye birbirinin üzerine yığmış olan zelzele ve gök gürültülerine götürüyor, insan korkuyor, o gök gürültüsünü, o depremi duyar gibi oluyor. Faust operasının ortasında bir Valpurgis gecesi vardır. Mefistofel, Faust’u cehenneme götürür ve orasını gösterir. Gökbel, operanın o kısmına güzel bir sahne olur. Zaten buraya girerken yola bir tabela asmalı, onun üzerine de Dante’nin cehenneme girerken cehennem kapısının üzerinde okuduğu kara ve ölü sözleri yazmalı, Benden gözyaşı beldesine girilir. Benden, ahlâkları kırılmış, kaybolmuş ruhların arasına girilir. Ey buradan içeri girenler, bütün umutlarınızı bırakınız.”[5]
Çorak bir bölgedir Gökbel, gözü burayı gördüğü anda içini umutsuzluk kaplar Balıkçı’nın, yaşamın olmadığı yerde umudun varlığından bile söz etmez. Ardından Ekinanbarı Köyü’ne ulaşır:
“… Sonra birdenbire manzara görkemli oluverdi. Çamlık, Akarsu, Sarısu, sonra yine dağ, bir köy, köylü kadınlar karpuz, kavun kesmekte, kara ve ak üzüm, çövenotu, dünyada soyu tükenmiş, yalnız buralarda kalmış âdemotu (mandragor), kösele gibi sert yapraklı kurtotu, ılgın, sandal ağacı, renk renk hayıtlar, ay ışığında yapraklan mavi mavi çakan, yabani sakız, karabaş, laden, adaçayı, yaban nanesi, kekik, çetinlik, kırlalesi, çobançantası, civanperçemi, kardelen, gelincik, papatya, gülhatmi, yabani hanımeli, çan çiçeği, kandilli sümbül) çayır güzeli, kadın tuzluğu, haseki küpesi, mersin… daha sayayım mı? Bunlar yüzde biri bile değil yahu.”[6]
Adımını attığı topraktan taşan yaşam hemen bulaşır Halikarnas Balıkçısı’na. Bodrum’da geçirdiği günlerde en azından birer kilo tohum alabilecek büyüklükte diktirdiği pantolon cebinde yürürken gördüğü toprak zemine bırakabilmek için tohumlar taşır. Gördüklerini, yaşadıklarını anlatmakla bitiremez; belli ki o mutluluğu yeryüzünde, sürgün edildiği topraklarda bulmuştur.
- KATHRYN MILLER
Kathryn Miller yerel ekosistemler üzerindeki insan müdahalesine dikkat çekmeye çalışan ve sanatı çevreyi iyileştirici projelerle birleştiren bir sanatçıdır. Miller üretimlerinde çoğunlukla ekosisteme uygun bitki örtüsünün oluşturulmasının önemiyle ilgilenirken; kamusal ve özel arazilerimizde yaptıklarımızla ilgili daha sürdürülebilir uygulamaların savunucusu olmaya çalışmıştır. Sanatçının sosyal bir katılımcı olarak rolüyle çok ilgilenen Miller, doğa ile kültür arasındaki bağı güçlendirmenin yollarını araştırır ve yaşadığı ortamlara tepkisini dile getirdiği projeler yapan bir sanatçı olarak yaşam olmadığı düşünülen topraklarda yaşamı destekleyen dönüşümler yaratmak üzere çalışır.[7] Yerel yaban hayatı ve sürdürülebilir doğal bitki sistemlerini eski hâline getirmek amacıyla bozulmuş ve tehlikede olan arazilere müdahale etmek için çeşitli yöntemler kullanır. Tohum, kil ve kompost kullanarak ürettiği tohum toplarını atıl arazilere atıp toprakta yeni bir yaşam yarattığı ve araziyi yeniden canlandırdığı en dikkat çeken çevresel sanat projelerinden “Seed Booms”(1991-2002)[8]’ buna en iyi örnektir.

Bu, Diggers[9] günlerinden önceye uzanan köklere sahip en üst düzey hippi el bombasıdır.[10] Tohum bombaları, çorak arazilere karşı savaşta tercih edilen bir silahtır. Bu tohum topları atılacak arazinin doğal ekolojisine uyumludur yani bombalar atıldığı bölgeye özgü ve bulunduğu toprakta filizlenecek bitkilerin tohumlarını içerir.[11]
Tohum bombaları 2001 yılında Benton Museum of Art’ta gerçekleşen Post-Landscape: Between Nature and Culture[12] sergisinde gelen ziyaretçilere ücretsiz olarak dağıtılır ve sanatçı üretimini kolektif bir çevresel dönüşüm sürecine vardırır.
Tohum bombaları kesinlikle benim silah seçimim. Avucunuzun içinde, gerçekleşmeyi bekleyen bir devriminiz var. O kadar güçlü bir şey ki, dünyanın çehresini kökten değiştirebilir. Tohum bombalamanın güzelliği, erişilebilirliğinin yanı sıra dönüştürme potansiyelidir. İnternette bulunan talimatlarla herkes tohum bombası yapabilir.[13]
Josie Jeffery tarafından yazılan “Seedbombs: Goingwith Flowers” isimli kitap bu kavramı okuyuculara tanıtırken tohum bombası yapmanın tarifini de veriyor:
Altı büyük tohum bombası için[14];
* 5 yemek kaşığı tohum kompostu (Bölgeye özgü ve kuraklığa dayanıklı bir tohum seçmeye çalışıyoruz)
* 4 yemek kaşığı kırmızı kil
* 1 çay kaşığı tohum (Not: Bunu boyut kılavuzu olarak haşhaş tohumlarına eşdeğer varsayın ve tohumlar büyüdükçe yarım çay kaşığı daha ekleyin.)
* Haşere uzaklaştırıcı olarak 1 tatlı kaşığı toz biber (isteğe bağlı)
* Aralıklarla su eklemesi (yaklaşık 20 ml)
* Sıvı gübre (kompostta NPK (Azot / Fosfor / Potasyum) yoksa)
Tohum bombaları (Seedbombs)
Tohum toplarını araziye saçın, bugünün “ekim yapmak” için en iyi zaman olup olmadığı konusunda endişelenmeyin. Artık elverişsiz koşullarda bir günde binlerce ağaç dikebilir ve doğanın işini yapmasına izin verebiliriz.
Tohumlar doğrudan toprağa ekildiğinde veya saçıldığında böcekler, kemirgenler, kuşlar gibi canlılar tarafından yenecek olmasından ötürü verim düşük olacaktır. Bouffier[15] ve Halikarnas Balıkçısı[16] da bu sorundan bahseder. Tohum toplarının en büyük avantajı toprağa ekildiklerinde onları yiyecek canlılardan korumak ve az tohum kullanılsa da iyi bir verim almayı sağlamanın kolaylığıdır. Yağmur yağdığında veya sulandıklarında tohumlar atıldıkları toprağa karışacak ve yeşermeye başlayacaktır.
Her tohum yaşam alanının bir köşesini yeşile çevirme potansiyeli taşır. Geçici tabutları içinde ölü gibi yatan tohumları, gönlünden ve yine gönlünden kopan sıcaklıkla biraz ısıt, dirilt, onlar dabizler gibi canlı. Biraz su ver. Onlar da yaşadığımız dünyada, çağdaşımız olarak güne güneşe çıksınlar.[17]
Bu örneklerde kamusal mekân üretim süreçlerinin dışında bırakılan kent sakinleri, izleyici konumundan çıkıp gündelik hayat içerisinde sosyal, politik ve ekolojik rol oynamış ve yaşadıkları mekânı geri kazanmışlardır. İnşa edilen kentsel yaşamın içerisinde “yeşil bir arka plan”a dönüşmüş olan ve gündelik hayattan soyutlanmış bir doğa fikrinin canlı yaşamı için sürdürülebilir olmadığını ve yalnızca yaşadığı kentin kaynaklarına sahip olmak değil, kentlinin düşünce ve ihtiyaçlarına göre kent değiştirme hakkına da sahip olduğunu fark ederek onu dönüştürme yoluna gitmişlerdir. Sürekli karşılaştıkları kentsel çürümeye karşı hareket geçen bu insanlar; kurgusal bir karakter de olsa, sürgün edilmiş bir yazar ya da bir sanatçı, dünyanın birçok bölgesindeler. Ekolojik denge her gün daha fazla bozulurken dengeyi yeniden sağlamak için çaba sarf ediyorlar. Bu dengeyi koruyacak bir toplum yaratmalıyız –sadece böyle bir toplum arzu edilir olduğu için değil, aynı zamanda çok gerekli olduğu için.[18]
